President: Lynette Ondeck
I am a Nooksack Valley Pioneer, born and raised. I attended Nooksack schools as a youngster and graduated from NVHS in 1983. Immediately following high school I attended Bellingham Technical Colleges' Licensed Practical Nursing Program. After working for 6 years in long term care, I arrived once again at Nooksack.
I worked for several years as a LPN for the district before returning to school to earn my Registered Nursing degree. I graduated from Whatcom Community College in 2000 with an Associate degree in Nursing. I then went to the University of Washington to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, graduating in 2002. In 2004 I earned a Masters in Education from Cambridge College. During the summer of 2004 I participated in a National Certification course and successfully passed the test to become a Nationally Certified School Nurse.
I have been an active or associate member of the School Nurse Organization of Washington for the past 12 years. In the spring of 2000, I was the recipient of SNOW scholarship, which was much appreciated as I continued my education. In the spring of 2005, I was sworn in a co-Representative for Area 1, serving 1 ½ terms before being appointed to the position of Vice President. This spring I was elected to the position of President Elect and look forward to serving SNOW members in this capacity.
My learning continues daily in the Nooksack Valley School District. I learn from the kids, families, and staff that I have the opportunity to work with on a daily basis. I try to set an example of good health by exercising regularly. I’ve trained for and completed 3 marathons and several ½ marathons. I support student health and encourage healthy eating. I assisted in the writing a federal fruits and vegetable grant at Everson Elementary School.
Each school day, brings some sort of new challenge. Health plans need updating, a skinned knee needs cleaning, a staff member needs their blood pressure monitored, or a board policy needs to be written. This ever changing job is fun, exciting, and keeps me on my toes. I look forward to going to work each day.
