NASN Director: Janice Doyle

I became a school nurse to serve the families in my community. I have always worked with children and families. I became active in SNOW so that I could influence my profession and the community that it serves. I hope that school nurses will become active in SNOW and receive the same rewards that I have.

Janice Doyle received her Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing in 1970 from the University of Washington and her Masters of Science Degree in Nursing in 1992 from Pacific Lutheran University. She has been working as a school nurse in Bethel School District for the past 24 years and is currently the Lead Nurse for the district. Ms. Doyle is Clinical Affiliate Faculty at Pacific Lutheran University where she has taught school nurse courses for ESA School Nurse Certification and other subjects since 1994.

Janice is currently serving as the WA Director for National Association of School Nurses (NASN). She has been elected to the NASN Executive Committee and serves as the Research Committee Strategic Co-Leader. She has been selected as a NASN Fellow and will be inducted in to the National Academy of School Nursing in June 2009.

She is a nationally certified school nurse and the WA Liaison for the National Board for Certification of School Nurses. Janice is also a member of the Consortium of School Nurse Educators. She is serving as the Secretary for this group.

Ms. Doyle co-authored Managing School Emergencies I, II, and III; student and instructor manuals as well as Disaster Preparedness Guidelines for School Nurses and Disaster Preparedness Guidelines for School Nurses 2007. Ms. Doyle served on an expert panel member for Emergency Care/Crisis Management for the National Guidelines Project on School Health and was selected by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for the Multihazard Safety Program for Schools; Train-the-Trainer course at the Emergency Management Institute in Maryland. She has presented at both state and national conferences on emergency care and disaster preparedness.
