School Nurse Practice Rebecca Cavanaugh

I am Rebecca Cavanaugh and currently work at Lake Washington Technical College in Kirkland, WA as a nurse educator. I have been a Nationally Certified School Nurse since 2006 and worked as a school nurse for Northshore School District from 1998-2007. During that time I served the SNOW as an Area I Rep for one term and as the Treasurer for 3 years. In the spring of 2007 I was the recipient of the SNOW Judith Maire scholarship while working toward my master’s degree.

I completed my master’s degree in community health nursing at the University of Washington in June 2009. I developed an Anaphylaxis Toolkit for school nurses to use in order to train school staff in the care of students with anaphylaxis and worked on the OSPI’s Guidelines for Care of Students with Anaphylaxis. I presented this work at the University of Washington HRSA funded DNP in Advanced Practice Community Health Systems Nursing meeting Coming Together to Promote Community Health- Connecting Science and Practice June 19, 2009.

I continue to promote school nursing and children’s health through my work in nursing education and through volunteer work with the leadership class at Bothell High School supporting their Youth Suicide Prevention Program campaign at the high school and two junior high schools.

I enjoy the collegial relationships and friendships I have developed through my participation as a member of SNOW and serving on the SNOW board. I look forward to continuing to support the school nurses in Washington State as the School Nurse Practice subcommittee chair
